I figured I’d compile a list of the articles I’ve kept since starting my little archive, alongside a quick (probably not accurate) description of each.
I’ve organized the content of each category with my favorites/must-reads of each above the ...
and everything else below, each subset in no particular order.
I’ll hopefully remember to keep this up to date as I add save more content.
I won’t add to this post, since it’ll be impossible to determine what was added when if looking for new content.

- Computer Latency - Dan Luu - A study of how, despite massive increases in raw computing power, input latency has (in general) gone up since the 80s. Goes over the challenges associated with lowering latency, and describes the iOS rendering pipeline.
- An introduction to lockless algorithms - Paolo Bonzini - Can’t describe this because I still don’t get it.
- Surprisingly Slow - Gregory Szorc - Relatively deep dive into what makes build systems, terminal writing, thermal throttling, interpreter startup, and storage I/O (amongst others) slow.
- Donald B. Gillies Lecture: Dr. Michael Stonebraker - Youtube video, professor discussing how the field of Database study/design has fallen from grace.
- Poisson’s Equation is the Most Powerful Tool not yet in your Toolbox - matt Ferraro - Understanding and using Poisson’s Equation.
- Open problems in Robotics - Scott Locklin - Big list of big problems in robotics.

- Advertising is a cancer on society - Jacek Złydach - Big ol list and breakdown of how advertising is terrible.
- Please Commit More Blatant Academic Fraud - Jacob Buckman - Recently brought to light academic fraud, and a call for idiots/system abusers to keep doing it in obvious ways so that readers think twice before taking the info in an AI paper for granted. Not exactly software specific, but couldn’t think of a better spot for it.
- Youtubers have to declare ads. Why doesn’t anyone else? - Tom Scott - A Youtube video, goes into the legality behind why movies don’t need to announce when they have product placements, but Youtube content does (spoiler alert, it’s bullshit). 30 minutes, worth the watch, especially if unfamiliar with the issue.

- “The Only Moral Abortion is My Abortion” - Joyce Arthur - The article which finally convinced me to write Empathy; people are happy to set ridiculous double standards when they’re personally involved. A collection of anecdotes from patients and doctors alike.
- America’s Dead Souls - Molly McGhee - An unfuriating and gut-wrenching anecdote on predatory debt-collectors preying on the vulnerable relatives of the newly deceased

- Writing Women Characters as Human Beings - Kate Elliot - Following hot on the heels of the above article, many authors (men and women) struggle to write women, treating them as some kind of “other”. Long story short, write them like human beings! Worth reading.
